Phase 01 — Listening

Sessions 1–2

The first phase is about learning to hear yourself clearly — beneath the noise, the judgment, and the urgency to fix things before they've been felt.

Most musicians come to this work with a well-trained critical ear. That ear has its place. But it often speaks first, loudest, and earliest — before anything has had a chance to emerge. Listening teaches a different way of attending: present, curious, unhurried.

What happens in this phase

Session 1 — Setting the Tone

Arriving, naming the project, slowing down together.

The first session is about arrival. You name the project you'll be working toward — not a finished thing, but a direction. We slow down together and establish the quality of attention that will carry the rest of the work.

Session 2 — Deepening Our Listening

The critical ear and the embodied ear — hearing without rushing to fix.

Here the distinction between the critical ear and the embodied ear becomes practical. You learn to hear your own work — and yourself — without the immediate move to evaluate or improve. This is harder than it sounds. It's also where things begin to open.

What you're building

The capacity to be present to your own creative signal. To notice what's actually there before deciding what it means.

"Before you can create from a deeper place, you need to hear yourself clearly."
